The Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has announced its Paid Internship Programme for the 2026-27 academic year. 
This initiative, which began in 2017, is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of BPR&D’s mandate to modernize police and prison administration through research, training, and technology.

About BPR&D
Established in 1970, the BPR&D assists the Central Government in coordinating police training and research efforts. The Bureau conducts systematic studies on police and prison issues, promotes the application of science and technology in law enforcement, and advises the Ministry of Home Affairs on technical and operational modernization.

Internship Duration and Structure
The program offers two distinct plans for selected candidates:
One-Month Internship: A 30-day program requiring a minimum of 22 working days.
Two-Month Internship: A 60-day program (Summer/Winter) requiring a minimum of 44 working days.

Weekly Schedule Breakdown
Interns follow a structured curriculum to ensure broad exposure to the Bureau’s various divisions:
Introductory Phase (5 Days): Interns spend one day each in the Research, Training, Modernization, National Police Mission (NPM), and Administration & Statistics divisions.
Specialization Phase (15 or 37 Days): Interns are attached to a specific division based on their educational background and interests.
Field Visits (2 Days): Interns visit Correctional Homes, Police Stations, and Juvenile Homes to gain firsthand experience.
Completion: The program concludes with a valediction ceremony on the final day of attachment.

Eligibility Criteria
This internship is strictly for students currently enrolled in recognized Universities or Research Institutes. It is not open to working professionals.

Educational Background
Applicants must be pursuing a Post-Graduation or Ph.D. in one of the following fields:
 * Criminology, Sociology, or Social Work.
 * Psychology or Forensic Psychology.
 * Law, Human Rights, or Public Administration.
 * Public Policy & Governance.
 * Information Technology, Computer Science, or Cyber Security.
 * Cyber Forensics & Information Security.
 * Police & Prison Studies/Administration.
 * Management or any other subject related to correctional administration.
Note: Students who have previously attended a BPR&D internship are ineligible to apply again.

Stipend and Facilities
Monthly Stipend: All selected interns will receive a stipend of Rs. 8,000 per calendar month.
Travel Reimbursement: Interns from outside Delhi are eligible for Sleeper Class train fare (shortest route) to New Delhi and back.
Resources: Interns are provided with BPR&D reading materials, library access, and computer facilities with internet and printing capabilities.
Accommodation: Applicants must make their own arrangements for boarding and lodging in Delhi for the duration of the program.

Application Process
The selection process involves both online and offline submissions. Only applications submitted online first will be considered for scrutiny.
Step 1: Online Submission

Step 2: Hard Copy Submission
After the online submission, a hard copy of the application must be sent by post. This must include:

Self-attested copies of all semester-wise mark sheets and certificates.
Annexure-II (Parental Undertaking for safety and security during field visits).

Research Project Topics
Interns are required to select a research topic at the time of application. The 2026-27 program features 53 specialized topics, including:
AI and Technology: AI-enabled crime detection, predictive policing, and the detection of deepfakes or synthetic content.
Cyber Security: Strengthening cybercrime response at police stations and investigating crimes involving VPNs and cryptocurrency.
Community and Wellness: Occupational stress and mental health in policing, and digital feedback platforms for police-community relations.
Modernization: Drone surveillance, blockchain-enabled secure databases for police records, and smart recruitment systems.

Selection Criteria
A committee chaired by the IG/Director (Research & Correctional Administration) will evaluate applications based on:
Eligibility and completeness of the application.
Verification of HOD forwarding and attested documents.
Final approval by the Director General (DG), BPR&D.
The final list of selected interns will be published on the official BPR&D website.
