The GNLU Centre for Research in Criminal Justice Sciences (GCRCJS) is organizing the GCRCJS International Conference on International Criminal Law, 2026, hosted by Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar. The conference aims to bring together scholars, professionals, and policymakers to explore emerging challenges and innovative pathways within International Criminal Law.

Theme of the Conference

Reinvigorating International Criminal Law by Innovation, Inclusivity, and Global Accountability

Dates and Mode

The conference will be held on 28th February and 1st March 2026. It will take place in offline mode at the GNLU campus. Limited virtual participation may be offered to foreign participants upon specific request and approval.

Objectives

The conference is designed to propose strategies to address underrepresented and emerging challenges within International Criminal Law, strengthen mechanisms of accountability amid rising conflicts, encourage interdisciplinary and collaborative research, and provide a platform for evidence-based discussion among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. It also aims to promote a global, inclusive, and resilient approach towards the future of international justice.

Conference Structure

The event will include plenary sessions, panel discussions, paper presentations, and interactive engagements among participants, speakers, judges, and attendees. Cultural stalls, networking opportunities, and outings will also form part of the experience.

Conference Themes and Sub-Themes

Participants may submit papers on a wide range of topics, including:

Reviving International Criminal Law
Institutional challenges, structural reforms, credibility and political concerns within the ICC, sovereignty disputes, selective justice, alignment of domestic laws with ICL, and procedural fairness.

War Crimes, Victim-Centered Justice and Innovation in Evidence
Crimes against humanity, genocide, accountability in new warfare contexts, rehabilitation of child victims, innovations in evidence-gathering, and international cooperation.

Gender, Identity, and Reproductive Justice
Sexual and reproductive violence as international crimes, gender-based crimes, LGBTQ+ rights, and expanding definitions within ICL.

Emerging Issues in International Criminal Law
Corporate liability, terror financing, technology-driven crimes, cyber warfare, AI, ecocide, environmental harm, maritime piracy, and transnational actors.

Anti-Money Laundering and ICL
Global and Indian AML-CFT systems, human rights concerns, comparative enforcement standards, and India’s international alignment.

White Collar Crimes and Transnational Financial Accountability
Corporate misconduct, cross-border financial crimes, global compliance mechanisms, and comparative enforcement approaches.

Participants may also submit abstracts on any contemporary and relevant issue connected to International Criminal Law.

Call for Submissions

Research papers are invited from academicians, researchers, students, criminal justice professionals, NGO practitioners, advocates, and experts across disciplines such as criminology, victimology, sociology, international relations, human rights, gender studies, technology, and environmental sciences.

Abstracts must be submitted exclusively through the designated Google Form. Email submissions will not be accepted.

Include up to five keywords
Clearly state objectives, major results, and implications
All abstracts will undergo blind review based on relevance, methodology, and originality

Key Deadlines (IST)

Abstract Submission: 5th December 2025
Notification of Acceptance: 10th December 2025
Full Paper Submission: 31st January 2026
Payment of Registration Fees (for paper presenters and observers): 31st January 2026

Participation Fees

GNLU Students: INR 1500
Students and Researchers: INR 2500 or USD 65
Professionals and Academicians: INR 4500 or USD 100
Observers: INR 1000 or USD 20
Each co-author must pay the applicable fee individually. Participants from SAARC countries may receive a fee reduction subject to valid proof.

Prizes and Recognition

Awards will be given to the top three research papers across all sessions.
First Prize: INR 15,000
Second Prize: INR 10,000
Third Prize: INR 5,000
The top three papers will be published in SCC Times.
All paper presenters will receive a Certificate of Participation, and the top three will receive Certificates of Merit.

Observer Participation

Observers may attend all conference sessions, including presentations, plenaries, and roundtable discussions. Observer registration must be completed by 31st January 2026.

Accommodation

Accommodation details, including venue and charges, will be shared with accepted authors after abstract acceptance.
