Late Shri Vijay A. Chavan National Moot Court Competition and Memorial Lecture – 10th Edition - Low Registration Fee (₹450)
The Deccan Education Society’s Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (Autonomous), Pune, is hosting the tenth edition of the National Moot Court Competition and Memorial Lecture in memory of Late Shri Vijay A. Chavan, Professor of Law. The event is organised by the Commerce Laboratory Moot Court Society (Law for Commerce) and aims to introduce Commerce students to courtroom practice while strengthening analytical, problem-solving, and advocacy skills.
About the Competition
The competition integrates the domains of Law and Commerce. It will be held on Saturday, 14 February 2026. Participation will be conducted in two modes: Law institutes will compete online through MS Teams, while Commerce institutes will participate offline on the BMCC campus.
Eligibility and Registration
Participation is open to undergraduate students enrolled in recognised Law and Commerce colleges or universities.
Each team must consist of two Mooters and one Researcher.
The registration fee is ₹450 per team.

Memorial Submission Guidelines
Participants must submit typed soft copies in PDF format for both Petitioner and Respondent by 23:59:59 on 10 February 2026 to bmccmootcourt2026@gmail.com, using the subject line “Submission of Memorials.”
Each memorial must not exceed 20 pages and must include the title page, statement of facts (within one page), statement of issues, summary of arguments, arguments advanced, prayer, and bibliography.
Formatting requirements include one-inch margins, Times New Roman font (size 12; footnotes size 10), 1.5 line spacing, and page numbers in the center of the footer.
Cover colours must be Blue for the Petitioner and Red for the Respondent.
Use of arguments sourced directly from the internet or other memorials may lead to disqualification.
Oral Arguments
In the Preliminary Round, teams must argue from both sides. Each team will have 25 minutes: 12 minutes per speaker (including two minutes for judges’ questions) and three minutes for rebuttal by one speaker. The top two teams move to the Final Round.
In the Final Round, each team will argue either for the Petitioner or the Respondent. Each team will have 30 minutes: 15 minutes per speaker (including three minutes of questioning) and five minutes for rebuttal.
Oral submissions constitute 80 percent of the overall score. Arguments must remain within the issues raised in the memorials. New arguments may not be introduced during rebuttal. Participants may not use electronic devices during the rounds.
Dress Code
Participants must wear a white shirt, black trousers, and a black blazer.
Awards
Winner: ₹7,000 and certificate
Runners-up: ₹5,000 and certificate
Best Written Argument and Memorial: ₹2,000 and certificate
Best Speaker: ₹2,000 and certificate
Consolation Prize: ₹1,000 and certificate
All participants who register, submit memorials, and appear for the oral rounds will receive certificates of participation.
