3rd Ram Balak Mahto Memorial National Essay Competition – 2025

The Ram Balak Mahto Foundation announces the third edition of its national essay competition, inviting students to engage deeply with constitutional values, justice, and social transformation.

Theme

“The Idea of Justice: Constitutional Morality and Social Transformation.”
Participants are encouraged to reflect on whether constitutional morality continues to influence public life and to consider justice as an evolving societal pursuit. The theme explores the role of law as a moral and transformative force in modern India.

Eligibility

Open to undergraduate and postgraduate students from recognised universities and colleges across India.
Students from law, public policy, social sciences, and related disciplines may participate.
There is no registration fee.

Word Limit and Co-authorship

Essay length must be between 2,500 and 3,000 words, excluding footnotes.
Co-authorship is permitted for up to two authors.
An abstract of not more than 250 words must accompany each submission.
Maximum permissible similarity is fifteen percent, excluding footnotes.

Formatting Guidelines

Essays must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx).
Main text: Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 spacing, one-inch margins.
Footnotes: Times New Roman, size 10, single spacing, Bluebook (20th edition) citation style.

Submission Process

Entries must be submitted through the official Google Form link shared by the Foundation.

Important Dates

Competition announcement and opening of registrations: 30 November 2025
Final date for registration and essay submission: 10 January 2026
Result declaration and virtual award ceremony: 27 January 2026

Prizes and Recognition

Winner: Lal Narayan Sinha Gold Medal, ₹10,000, and an internship with a Senior Advocate or Sitting Judge
Runner-up: ₹5,000, internship opportunity, and Certificate of Distinction
Top five essays: Certificates of Merit
All participants: E-Certificate of Participation
