The School of Legal Studies, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, is organising the Second Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar National Moot Court Competition, 2026. This national-level advocacy event is designed to strengthen students’ skills in constitutional law, criminal jurisprudence, legal research, memorial drafting, and courtroom advocacy through a highly competitive and academically rigorous format.


About Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament in 1994 and operational since 1996. The University holds an ‘A++’ accreditation from NAAC and is guided by the principles of social justice, equality, and inclusive education envisioned by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

The Department of Law, under the School of Legal Studies, offers BBA LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. programmes and has been ranked 12th under the NIRF law rankings. The Department is known for its emphasis on advocacy training, legal research, and experiential learning, including national-level moot court programmes.


About the Competition

The 2026 edition of the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar National Moot Court Competition aims to test participants on newly enacted criminal laws and their constitutional implications. The competition will be conducted in a hybrid format:

  • Preliminary and Quarter-Final Rounds – Online

  • Semi-Final and Final Rounds – Offline at BBAU, Lucknow

Participants will engage with complex legal questions involving criminal procedure, constitutional safeguards, and evolving standards of justice.


Moot Theme

The moot problem is based on the interaction between contemporary criminal law reforms and constitutional guarantees, with focus on:

  • Fair trial and due process

  • Rights of victims and accused persons

  • Use of electronic and circumstantial evidence

  • Investigative fairness under Article 21

  • Judicial scrutiny of recent criminal law changes

Teams must analyse whether recent legal reforms promote justice or pose risks to fundamental rights.


Eligibility

Students enrolled in the following programmes may participate:

  • Three-year LL.B.

  • Five-year integrated law degree

Students pursuing LL.M., Ph.D., or diploma programmes are not eligible.

Additional conditions:

  • A maximum of four teams per institution

  • Each team must be authorised by the Head, Dean, or Moot Court Committee of their institution

Team Composition

  • Minimum: 2 members

  • Maximum: 3 members (2 Speakers and 1 Researcher)


Registration Fee

  • ₹4,500 per team (mandatory)

  • Optional accommodation for semi-finalists and finalists: ₹3,000 per team

Payment must be made exclusively through the University ERP Portal.


Prizes and Awards

Total Prize Pool: ₹1,00,000 (cash and rewards in kind)

Cash Prizes

  • Winner: ₹21,000

  • Runner-Up: ₹15,000

  • Best Speaker: ₹5,000

  • Best Memorial: ₹5,000

  • Best Researcher: ₹5,000

Additional Rewards

  • Legal research subscriptions worth ₹49,000

  • Trophies and medals for winners and special award recipients

  • Semi-Finals (Offline): 21 February 2026

  • Final Round & Valedictory Ceremony: 22 February 2026


Registration Process

  1. Make the registration payment through the University ERP Portal

  2. Select Miscellaneous and choose Moot Court as the activity

  3. Download and save the payment receipt

  4. Complete the Google Registration Form and upload the receipt

  5. Registration confirmation will be issued by the Moot Court Committee within 24–48 hours
