RGNUL National Moot Court Competition 2026 on Consumer Protection Laws - Free Prelims
The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, is hosting its National Moot Court Competition on Consumer Protection Laws 2026. The event is being organized by the RGNUL Moot Court Committee (RMCC) in collaboration with the Centre for Competition and Consumer Protection Law (CCCPL) and is officially sponsored by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India.
About the Organizing Institutions
RGNUL, established in 2006 by the Punjab State Legislature, is recognized as an institution of national standing in legal education. Accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC and ranked among the leading law schools in India, the university promotes contemporary legal research and advocacy training.
The RGNUL Moot Court Committee works toward strengthening mooting culture and enhancing competitive exposure among students. CCCPL contributes to scholarship and policy in the areas of competition and consumer protection law through research and academic engagement.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs lends institutional support to strengthen student knowledge regarding consumer rights and regulatory mechanisms.
Nature and Focus of the Competition
The competition aims to cultivate legal reasoning and advocacy skills among participants while engaging them with rapidly evolving consumer-protection issues emerging from the digital economy. Participants will explore legal aspects concerning:
– Dark patterns and deceptive digital practices
– Misleading advertisements
– Data protection and privacy in consumer transactions
– Consumer liability and accountability of product manufacturers
Proceedings will be conducted in a hybrid format—online preliminary rounds followed by offline advanced rounds at RGNUL campus.
Eligibility and Team Structure
Participation is open only to students enrolled in 3-year or 5-year LL.B. degree programs at any recognized law institution in India. Students pursuing LL.M. or certificate/diploma courses are not eligible.
Each participating institution may nominate only one team. Every team must consist of three members—two speakers/oralists and one researcher.
Registration Fee and Facilities
There is no registration fee for the Preliminary Rounds. Teams selected for the Advanced Rounds will be required to pay INR 6000 (plus GST), covering accommodation on campus for 19, 20, and 21 February 2026.

– Memorial Submission (Soft Copy): 1 February 2026
– Preliminary Rounds (Online): 7 February 2026
– Advanced Rounds at Campus: 20 and 21 February 2026
Prizes and Recognition
The competition offers cash awards, trophies, and merit certificates in the following categories:
– Winners: ₹40,000 plus Trophy and Certificates
– Runners-Up: ₹25,000 plus Trophy and Certificates
– Best Memorial: ₹15,000 plus Trophy and Certificate
– Best Speaker (Male): ₹10,000 plus Trophy and Certificate
– Best Speaker (Female): ₹10,000 plus Trophy and Certificate
Participation certificates will be issued to all competing team members.
