Overview and Host Institution

Ramaiah College of Law (RCL), Bengaluru, is presenting the inaugural edition of the Ramaiah International Moot and Arbitration Conference (RIMAC) 2026. This flagship initiative marks three decades of excellence in legal education at RCL and aims to deliver an international-standard arbitration experience. The event features realistic arbitration disputes, structured in alignment with prevailing commercial and procedural practices, and is accompanied by an academic conference on dispute resolution.

The competition is organized by the Moot Court Committee of RCL in collaboration with the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Eligibility and Participation Rules

Teams may consist of two or three members. Participants must be pursuing:

– An undergraduate law degree,
– A bar qualifying programme, or
– A postgraduate degree such as LL.M.

All members of a team must belong to the same recognized institution. Only one team per institution is allowed. Individuals already admitted as advocates, solicitors, barristers, or equivalent legal practitioners are not eligible.

Language Policy

English is the primary language of the competition. Oral submissions may be presented in Kannada, Hindi, or a foreign language, provided an interpreter request is made at registration. All memorials must be submitted exclusively in English.

Registration and Fee Structure

Online registration closes on 15 December 2025. The initial non-refundable fee payable at the time of registration and memorial submission is:

– Indian Teams: INR 2,500
– Overseas Teams: USD 50

Only the top sixteen teams proceeding to the Oral Rounds must pay an additional fee by 31 January 2025, which covers accommodation, local transportation, and participation in official social events:

– Indian Teams: INR 5,000
– Overseas Teams: USD 100

Payments must be made via direct transfer, and proof must be submitted to rcl.intlarbmoot@msrcl.org.

Competition Format

Qualification for oral rounds is based exclusively on memorial assessment. The top sixteen teams advance to the oral rounds held at Bengaluru. The stages include Preliminary Rounds, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and Finals. Teams must argue both Claimant and Respondent sides in written and oral stages.

Rules for Oral Submissions

Each round consists of 45 minutes of oral advocacy per team, divided as follows:

– First speaker: 20 minutes
– Second speaker: 20 minutes
– Rebuttal or Sur-rebuttal: 5 minutes

During oral proceedings, use of laptops, phones, tablets, or other computing devices is strictly prohibited. Scouting of other competing teams’ rounds is not permitted.

Memorial Guidelines

Teams must submit Memorials for both Claimant and Respondent in Word and PDF formats. All memorials undergo plagiarism checks. Use of artificial intelligence tools is permitted strictly for grammar refinement, formatting, citations, linguistic clarity, and structural assistance. AI-generated substantive content that replaces original legal reasoning may lead to disqualification.

Awards and Benefits

The competition offers substantial prizes along with internship opportunities provided by official partners:

– Best Team (Winner): Best Team Trophy, INR 1,00,000, and internships for all team members
– First Runner-Up: Runner-Up Trophy, INR 75,000, and internships for all team members
– Best Mooter: INR 50,000 plus internship with an institutional partner
– Best Memorial: INR 50,000 plus internship opportunity
