CNLU–DPIIT–IPR National Moot Court Competition 2026

The DPIIT–IPR Chair and the Centre for Innovation, Research and Facilitation (CIRF), Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, are organising the CNLU–DPIIT–IPR National Moot Court Competition, 2026. The competition is centred on emerging issues in copyright law, with a specific focus on Artificial Intelligence.

Eligibility and Registration
– Participation open to students enrolled in 3-year LL.B. or 5-year integrated LL.B. programmes
– Team Structure: Two Speakers and One Researcher
– Maximum of two teams per institution (official approval mandatory)
– Cross-institutional teaming not permitted
– Registration Fee: ₹4,000 per team (non-refundable)
– Submission requires application form and bona-fide certificate
– A designated Point of Contact must be provided

Competition Format
Stage I – Memorial Qualifier Round
– Open to all registered teams
– Top 16 teams selected on basis of memorial evaluation

Stage II – Oral Rounds
– Preliminary Rounds (Online)
– Quarter-Finals (Online)
– Semi-Finals (Online)
– Finals (Offline at CNLU Campus)

Memorial Submission Rules
Teams must submit memorials for Petitioner and Respondent in Word and PDF formats.
– Maximum pages in body of arguments: 25
– Maximum total pages including cover page: 40
– Statement of Facts: Maximum 2 pages
– Summary of Arguments: Maximum 2 pages
– Issues Raised and Prayer: Maximum 1 page each
– Citation Format: OSCOLA
– Speaking footnotes/endnotes disallowed
– Identity disclosure prohibited; only team code allowed
– Plagiarism not above 15%
– AI-generated text strictly prohibited (0% tolerance)

Oral Rounds Time Limits (Per Team)
– Preliminary Rounds: 30 minutes
– Quarter-Finals & Semi-Finals: 40 minutes
– Finals: 50 minutes
– Minimum rebuttal/surrebuttal: 1 minute; Maximum 5 minutes

The researcher must attend the oral rounds. Accommodation expenses will be borne by organisers only for finalist teams.

Awards and Benefits
– Winning Team: ₹50,000 + Internship at S.S. Rana & Co.
– Runner-Up: ₹40,000
– Best Memorial: ₹10,000
– Best Researcher: ₹10,000
– Best Speaker: ₹10,000

In addition:
– All participants receive 20% scholarship on all Lawctopus courses
– Merit certificates for winners and finalists
– Participation certificates for teams qualifying to oral rounds
