38th Bar Council of India National All India Inter-University Moot Court Competition, 2026

The 38th Bar Council of India National All India Inter-University Moot Court Competition is being organised by the Bar Council of India Trust (Pearl First) in collaboration with The Assam Royal Global University, Guwahati. This edition is historically significant as it marks the first time in more than four decades that the competition is being hosted in the far-eastern region of India, in Assam.

Eligibility and Team Composition

The competition is open to bona fide students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate law programmes at any recognised college, institution, or university

Each team must consist of three members

Two speakers

One researcher


The designations of Speaker 1 and Speaker 2 must be fixed at the time of registration and cannot be changed later

Any violation of speaker designation rules may lead to disqualification




Registration Details

Registration Fee: Rs. 3,000 per team

The fee is non-refundable once paid

Registration is complete only after payment through the QR code and submission of the registration form with all required details

After successful registration, a unique Team Code will be allotted, which must be used for all future correspondence and on all memorials



Competition Structure and Moot Problems

This competition is distinctive because it uses four different moot problems for different stages of the tournament.

Preliminary Rounds – 30 January 2026

Moot problem: Forum for Education of Children of Kawartan Refugees v. Union of Suvarnabhoomi

Focus areas include refugee rights, education, and constitutional law

Top eight teams qualify for the Quarter-Finals based on wins and scores


Quarter-Finals – 30 January 2026

Moot problem on minority educational institutions and Article 30(1) of the Constitution

Top four teams qualify for the Semi-Finals


Semi-Finals – 31 January 2026

Moot problem on criminal law involving murder investigation and admissibility of forensic evidence under the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023

Top two teams qualify for the Final


Final – 31 January 2026

Moot problem on contract law, joint ventures, and writ petitions related to public tenders



Awards and Cash Prizes

Winner: Rs. 2,00,000

First Runner-Up: Rs. 1,00,000

Second Runner-Up: Rs. 50,000

Best Speaker: Rs. 10,000

Second Best Speaker: Rs. 7,500

Best Memorial: Rs. 10,000

Second Best Memorial: Rs. 7,500


In addition, top performers may receive a scholarship of Rs. 1,000 per month for one year from the Bar Council of India, and outstanding memorials may be published in the Indian Bar Review.

Citation Style: Harvard Bluebook, 19th Edition

Maximum Length: 25 typed pages

Cover Colours:

Blue for Appellant or Petitioner

Bright Red for Respondent


Submission Requirements:

Five hard copies to be submitted at the time of registration

Soft copies must be submitted in PDF format only


Late Submission Penalty: Ten marks will be deducted for each day of delay




Accommodation and Dress Code

Accommodation will be provided only for the official days of the competition

Teams arriving before or leaving after the competition must arrange their own stay


Dress Code

Strict black and white formal attire is mandatory

For ladies: white shirt, black pants or skirt, black tie, black coat, and black shoes

For gentlemen: white shirt, black trousers, black tie, black coat, and black shoes
