Virtual Judgement Writing Competition 2025–26

About the Competition
The Virtual Judgement Writing Competition 2025–26 is promoted by Gujarat Law Society (GLS) and organized by the Faculty of Law (FOL), a constituent department of GLS University, Ahmedabad. The competition aims to inculcate judicial writing skills among law students by placing them in the role of a judge and encouraging reasoned, principled decision-making.

Objectives of the Competition
• To develop a judicious and analytical mindset
• To enhance clarity in applying legal principles
• To promote respect for the rule of law and justice
• To encourage fair interpretation of law to meet the ends of justice

Important Dates
• Release of Proposition, Rules & Registration Opens: 13 December 2025
• Last Date for Registration: 27 December 2025
• Last Date for Seeking Clarifications: 31 December 2025
• Last Date for Submission of Judgment: 15 January 2026
• Declaration of Results: 24 January 2026

Eligibility and Registration
• Open to students pursuing a 5-year integrated LL.B. or 3-year LL.B. programme in India
• Each team must consist of exactly two members
• Only one team per institution is permitted
• Participation limited to the first 24 registered teams
• Registration through Google Form on or before 27 December 2025 (11:59 PM IST)
• Registration Fee: ₹500 per team
• Language of the Competition: English only

Submission Guidelines
• Maximum word limit: 3500 words (excluding footnotes and references)
• Font: Times New Roman
• Font size: 12
• Line spacing: 1.5
• Footnotes: Font size 10, single spacing
• Citation style: Bluebook (20th Edition), following judicial citation format
• Submission must be original and plagiarism-free
• Identity of participants must not be disclosed anywhere in the submission
• Only the allotted Team Code may be used

Evaluation and Penalties
• Late submission, incorrect file naming, exceeding word limit, or plagiarism beyond 10% will attract negative marking
• In case of a tie, the submission with the least plagiarism score will be ranked higher

Marking Scheme (Total 100 Marks)
• Preparation of Facts: 20 marks
• Identification of Issues: 20 marks
• Analytical Reasoning: 20 marks
• Use of Authorities, Statutes, and Legal Provisions: 20 marks
• Format and Presentation: 10 marks
• Knowledge and Application of Legal Principles: 10 marks

Awards
• Winner: Trophy and ₹10,000
• First Runner-up: Trophy and ₹5,000
• Second Runner-up: Trophy and ₹3,000
• Certificates of Participation for all participants
